Higher Educational Institutes’ Idea Competition West – LIV 2011 (Lärosätenas Idétävling Väst – LIV 2011) is an idea competition for you as a researcher, professor or doctoral student at an institute of higher education in Western Sweden.
The competition is organized by Innovationskontor Väst and GU Holding AB in cooperation with the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers, and University College of Borås, Halmstad, Jönköping and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Skara.
Our intention with this competition is to aid in the formation of positive attitudes for you who are involved in research to better apply, show and utilise research results. It is our hope that LIV in this way can be an incentive for you in the process of utilising your idea. Our expectation is also for LIV to provide institutes of higher education with the opportunity to bring forth new ideas. Ideas that in one way or another can benefit society.
You are invited to send in an application if you have a sustainable idea from your research results that can be developed into:
- a solution to a common problem or need in society
- a product or service suitable for commercialization
You can send your idea yourself or together with others. Describe, in your application, how you plan to utilize your idea and in what way the idea will contribute to sustainable development from a social, economic and/or environmentally sustainable perspective. The competition comprises three categories of prizes. Moreover, those nominated will receive advice from an innovation advisor at your respective institute of higher education.
Category 1:
The prize to the winning ideas will be in the form of consultation reimbursement you can use for novelty searches, business or legal advice or other consultations needed for your idea.
1st prize 60 000 SEK
2nd prize 30 000 SEK
3rd prize 20 000 SEK
Category 2
Moreover, the best idea from your institute will be rewarded with a consultant reimbursement of 10 000 SEK.
Category 3
The public will be given the opportunity to influence a decision on whether your idea wins a special prize. Just make a note on the application whether you want to participate in winning the public’s nomination. Write a short text on the idea. The text will then be shown and distributed through diverse media where the public can go and vote for their favourite. You can also influence the decision by encouraging people to vote for your idea. The idea that gets the most votes from the public will win a special prize worth 10 000 SEK.
The jury will judge the idea’s potential based on the following criteria:
The novelty of the idea and innovativeness from a utilitarian perspective, the idea’s sustainability, the idea’s connection to research at the institute, credibility for the idea’s feasibility and in its future commercial potential or utility, the idea initiator’s creative thinking and the importance of the consultation reimbursements for the idea.
